Tabebuia avellanedae is an evergreen tropical tree with a height of up to 30 metres, growing in the mountains of South and Central America (up to 1500 m above sea level) with spherical pink inflorescences. Pau d’Arco (Tabebuia avellanedae) is also known as La Pacho (Argentina, Paraguay) and Ipe Roxo, Morado (Brazil).

The inner bark is mainly used for the manufacturing of herbal raw materials. It contains an active substance – lapachol. Not all the active ingredients of the plant are known. The Indians of South America called the tree tajy, which means “to have strength and vigor”.

When using Pau d’Arco, it is advisable to eat: fruit, vegetables, unrefined cereals, groats (especially millet), oatmeal, legumes, nuts and seeds.
