L-Lysine is an exogenous amino acid that is not produced in the human body and must be supplied through food or supplementation. Lysine is essential for the production of all proteins in the body and is needed to maintain the structural proteins collagen and elastin, which form the basis of all connective tissues such as skin, tendons and bones. L-Lysine is also a precursor of L-carnitine, which is needed to metabolize fat and produce energy.
