What is glutathione?

• Glutathione is a tripeptide, that is, it consists of three compounds linked together: glutamic acid, cysteine ​​and glycine. Its greatest concentration is in the liver, kidneys, lens of the eye, pancreas and spleen.
• Glutathione occurs in every cell of our body, especially in mitochondria (the power plants of cells). Reduced glutathione is the common name for glutathione disulfide, abbreviated as GSH. "SH" stands for the key active sulfhydryl group. Thanks to this group, it can neutralize free radicals, peroxides and toxins.

Research confirms the high effectiveness of glutathione preparations

• The allegations about poor resorption of oral preparations have been questioned thanks to studies conducted on mice (AW Ty et. Al.1991), rats (TM Hagen et al. 1991) and humans (JP Richie 2014).
• The group of patients was divided into several subgroups - some received 250 mg of glutathione a day, some - 1000 mg, and some - identical-looking placebo tablets. The study aimed to check whether glutathione supplements increase its level in the blood, or maybe - as some scientists claimed - they are simply digested.
• Glutathione levels were checked in the 1st, 3rd and 6th month of supplementation, both in plasma, erythrocytes, lymphocytes and oral epithelial cells. In the group receiving 1000 mg daily, the level increased by 30-35% in plasma, lymphocytes and erythrocytes, and by as much as 260% in epithelial cells.
• In the low-dose group, levels increased by 17% in the blood and by 29% in the red blood cells. One month after stopping supplementation, levels returned to those of those receiving a placebo. Most importantly, in the group receiving the high dose, the efficiency of natural killer (NK) lymphocytes doubled.
