Turpentine  (also called turpentine spirit, turpentine oil, wood turpentine) is a liquid obtained by distillation of resin obtained from living trees, mainly pines. It consists of terpenes, mainly the monoterpenes alpha-pinene and beta-pinene with smaller amounts of carene, camphene, dipentene and terpinolene. Sometimes it is colloquially called turps.
