Scientific research focuses on the roots, not the leaves, of ashwagandha. Specialists practicing Ayurveda use only the root due to its beneficial adaptogenic properties, known for thousands of years. In traditional medicine, ashwagandha leaves were used mainly externally.
Why only roots?
- most published research has been conducted on the properties of the root, not the leaves of ashwagandha
- Ashwagandha root has been consumed by humans for a long time and is considered much safer compared to ashwagandha leaves
- in some European countries, only ashwagandha root extract is allowed, not the leaves
