High-quality SafraSOL™ saffron extract (Crocus Sativus), double standardized to 10% crocin and 2% safranal.

What is saffron?

Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world, obtained from the stigmas of the cultivated crocus (Crocus sativus). It has the form of characteristic orange-red threads with a slightly tart taste and smell reminiscent of freshly cut grass, with a noticeable note of honey and sandalwood. Saffron is a spice highly valued in many traditional cuisines, and its high price results from the fact that to obtain 1 kg of this spice, it is necessary to pick up to 200,000 crocus flowers and isolate the valuable pistil stigmas from them.

How does saffron work?

The use of saffron does not end only with culinary values. The health-promoting properties of crocus pistils were discovered by the ancient Sumerians who used them for medicinal purposes over 5,000 years ago. Now what the ancients sensed through their intuition and observations has been fully confirmed by modern science* . Saffron is rich in numerous biologically active compounds, among which the most important are  crocin  and  safranal , thanks to which it improves mood and helps maintain emotional balance, as well as improving libido and sexual functions.

In addition, the presence of over 150 other chemical compounds was also found, including: glycosides and carotenoids such as lycopene and zeaxanthin, which also have a positive effect on the functioning of the body.

What is the standardization and origin of the extract ?

When deciding to buy saffron, whether in the form of a spice or a dietary supplement, you must be careful and vigilant, because due to its high price, there is a lot of counterfeit material on the market. In the case of dietary supplements, it is also worth paying attention to the standardization and origin of the extract. Products available on the market are often based on low-standardized or non-standardized extracts, or simply on dried, powdered plant material with a much lower content of active ingredients.

The SafraSOL™ saffron extract   contained in our product is obtained exclusively from the stigmas of the cultivated crocus (Crocus sativus), comes from a renowned Spanish manufacturer and is characterized by a very high, double standardization of 10% crocin and 2% safranal. This means that each capsule contains as much as 10 mg of crocin and 600 µg of safranal, which are the main active ingredients of saffron.

Aliness Saffron 30 mg  does not contain any animal ingredients, making it a product suitable for vegans. The product does not contain any artificial technological additives, preservatives or dyes.

*RESEARCH: The effect of saffron on improving mood and maintaining emotional balance

To determine the effectiveness of saffron as an antidepressant, researchers conducted a clinical review of six studies involving 230 adults (118 women and 112 men) aged 18 to 60 with moderate depressive disorder. Two studies compared the effectiveness of saffron with a placebo, and the remaining four compared the effectiveness of saffron with antidepressants.

In two randomized, double-blind studies, the effects of 30 mg of saffron daily were compared with placebo. Compared to placebo, saffron showed significant therapeutic effects.

In four randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies, the effects of 30 mg of saffron daily were compared with therapeutic doses of two antidepressants - fluoxetine (20 mg/day) and imipramine (100 mg/day). The results of the conducted research indicate that saffron is much more effective than placebo and is comparable to the tested synthetic antidepressants - imipramine and fluoxetine.
