L-taurine , i.e. 2-aminoethylsulfonic acid, is a compound classified as a non-protein amino acid. This means that, unlike most of the most well-known amino acids, it does not have the ability to form peptide bonds and does not build proteins. Nevertheless, it is a very important compound for the body - a biogenic amino acid, i.e. essential for life. Hence its very abundant occurrence in tissues (mainly skeletal muscles) and the bloodstream. The fact that taurine constitutes approximately 1/1000 of the weight of the human body and is therefore the most abundant non-protein amino acid in the body proves how important a role taurine must play in the body.

L-taurine is produced in the body as a result of the metabolism of cysteine and methionine (endogenous amino acid) or it can be supplied with food. Because the endogenous synthesis of taurine is limited and declines with age, and in food this amino acid occurs only in products of animal origin, deficiencies of this ingredient may occur - especially in physically and mentally active people, athletes, people on a vegetarian or vegan diet and in the elderly.

The Aliness L-Taurine product is recommended for people who undertake intense physical and intellectual effort, as well as vegetarians, vegans and the elderly.
